On the 23rd of January 2008 Ian's mother tragically passed away from oesophageal cancer at the age of just 58. 2011 marked the 3rd anniversary of her passing and in her memory he decided to start an annual fund raising event to raise awareness of this disease.

On 21st -23rd of January 2011 he ran 3 marathons in 3 days on a treadmill at Heathrow Airport in aid of MacMillan Cancer Support and the Oesophageal Patients Association raising a total of £4717.04.

Subsequently he has pushed himself to the limit and has taken part in a number of indurance activities such as 'Men's Health - Survival of the Fittest', 'Tough Guy' and 'Tough mudder', all challening him both physically and mentally to raise funding and awareness of the OPA.

7,000 – 8,000 people each year are diagnosed with Oesophagus Cancer. It is a very aggressive cancer that is not commonly heard of yet it is the 9th most common cancer in the UK. If you want to learn more about oesophageal cancer please vist www.opa.org.uk
